About the lecturer:

Prof. Zou Jun, male, Ph.D, senior researcher of Scottish Fish and ImmunologyResearch Center of University of Aberdeen, serves as a special-term professor anddoctoral tutor of Shanghai Ocean University.

In 1987, he graduated from the Department of Biology of Peking University, received master degree (with Academician Zhu Zuoyan as his tutor) from theInstitute of Hydrobiology of Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1990, studied inthe UK in 1992 and obtained Doctor of Science from University of Aberdeen in 1998.

Prof. Zou Jun has long been engaging in fish genetics and immunologyresearch and started a series of cutting-edge scientific researches under theauspices of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the BBSRC, theRoyal Society of Edinburgh, the European Community and other academiccommunities. He was the first to report fish IL-1, gamma-interferon anddefensin in 1999, 2004 and 2007, respectively, his researches are of great significanceto clarify the function of the fish cytokines, the immune regulatory mechanismand the development of vaccines. For the first time, he proved that type I andtype III interferon genes with the same genetic structure exist in the samevertebrate species, started systematic research on the function and molecularevolution of the teleost Type I interferon and pioneered in proposing the molecularevolution theory of type I interferon. He has published over 120 researchpapers and reviews in PLOS Pathogens, Journal of Immunology, Journal ofVirology, Infection and Immunity and other academic journals, with more than5000 citations and H factor of 46. Currently, he serves as an editorial boardmember of Developmental and Comparative Immunology(2012-present) and Fish and Shellfish Immunology (2006-present). He served manytimes as the review panelist of the Department of Life Science of the NationalNatural Science Foundation of China, overseas review expert of the Ministry ofScience and Technology, as well as a review expert for a number ofinternational scientific research fund agencies.
