On November 20, a delegation of 8,including President Toshiro Takeuchi and Vice President Tokai Tadashi of Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology (TUMST),visited Shanghai Ocean University (SHOU) and attended a joint seminar on thetheme of inheritance and innovation of pattern creation andcharacteristic educational research advantages of ocean universities. SHOU Vice President Li Jiale presided over the seminar.
Cheng Yudong and Takeuchi Toshiro addressed the seminar respectively. In his speech, Cheng Yudong said that TUMST is aninternational benchmark for SOU. Both universities have had frequent exchangesand close cooperation and formed a regular exchange mechanism, thus creating desirableconditions for deepening inter-university cooperation. The convocation of the11th seminar in the context of the 105th anniversary of the founding of ouruniversity and the admission into the double first-class universityunder the Ministry of Education is yet another historic achievement oflong-term friendly exchanges and cooperation between the two universities.Through this seminar, both parties hope to share the experience in educationreform, accumulate new connotation basis for the new development of the twouniversities and promote the development of marine higher education. Takeuchi Toshiro congratulatedour university on its admission into the double first-class universityand fully affirmed and praised the seminar held by the two universities, hopingthat the two universities would continue to uphold the long-term and friendlycooperative relations and promote multi-disciplinary exchanges and cooperation interms of academic exchanges and personnel training and work together for thedevelopment of marine undertakings.
At the seminar, Professors Cheng Yudong,Wang Xichang, Ping Ying, Chen Liangbiao and Tang Jianye gave reports respectively,on the path and carrier of the connotation development of high-qualityuniversity with distinctive features, academic program layout andpostgraduate education reform, characteristic-enhanced strategy forthe education and research in fishery economy , building researchand talent training system for the College of Fishery and Life Scienceand Marine (Polar) Fisheries Resources Law and RegulationArea. President Takeuchi Toshiro, Professors Masashi Maiya,Akio Akayasu,Shuichi Sato and 川辺みどり of TUMST addressed respectively on Inheritance and Innovationof Education and Research at TUMST, Exploration on Guaranteeing UniversityEducation Quality, New Research Areas and Education QualityAssurance for the Department of Marine Resources and Environment, “MarineLife Science Research and Personnel Development Measures and MarinePolicy Education and Cultural Improvement Initiatives . From theperspective of educators and researchers, they jointly discussed the structureof marine universities and the inheritance and innovation of characteristicadvantages in educational research, and had full exchange and informationsharing.
In a comprehensive discussion hosted by WuJiannong, SOU’s Deputy Party Secretary, and Prof. Lou Xiaobo of TUMST, both theChinese and Japanese parties also conducted in-depth discussions on theeducational development and innovation of ocean universities which are ofcommon concern. Wu Jiannong summarized the results of the seminar as gratitude,sharing, and prospect. He sincerely hoped that the two universities would worktogether to further explore the ocean and develop the concerted future in theprocess of protecting and making use of the ocean.
