SHOU Leader and Delegation Attended the 16th AMFUF

From November 9 to 11, at the invitation ofVietnam's Ho Chi Minh City University of Transportation and Korean MaritimeUniversity, a delegation of 4 led by Vice President Li Jiale of Shanghai OceanUniversity (SOU) attended the 16th Asian Marine and FisheryUniversity Forum (AMFUF) held in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. The forum washosted by Ho Chi Minh City University of Transportation under the theme of Sustainableand Effective Shipping and Fishery Industry.

About 50 representatives from 16 Asian marineand fishery universities, including SOU and those from Guangdong, Taiwan, SouthKorea, Japan, Vietnam, Russia and Myanmar, attended the meeting. During theforum, the delegation visited the campus of Ho Chi Minh City University ofTransportation and had extensive exchanges of ideas with the delegates. Prof.Tian Siquan from our school also made a keynote speech on Stock Assessment onPacific Stock Assessment on Pacific saury in the North Pacific Ocean usingBayesian state-space production model. After discussion at themeeting, it was agreed that the next year’s forum would be held at GuangdongOcean University and it was unanimously agreed to admit Sri Lanka's General SirJohn Kotelawala Defence University as a new member of the forum.

The Asian Marine and Fishery University (AMFUF)is a platform for Asian marine and fishery universities to carry outeducational and research cooperation and exchange. The existing members includenearly 20 marine and fishery universities from China, Japan, Korea, Russia,Vietnam, Thailand, Myanmar, the Philippines, Indonesia, Chinese Taiwan andother countries and regions, and the forum is held in turn by the memberuniversity each year. Shanghai Ocean University held the 11th AMFUFin 2012.
