SHOU Holding “China-ASEAN Dean’s Forum on Fisheries Education and Postgraduates Workshop on Sustainable Aquaculture”

On June 12~13, China-ASEAN Dean’s Forum on Fisheries Education and Postgraduates Workshop on Sustainable Aquaculture was held in Tuwen Information Center of SHOU. Li Jiale, Vice President of SHOU, attended the event and gave a speech. Vorathep Muthuwan, Director of the Marine Research Institute of Burapha University, Thailand, gave a speech on behalf of all the guests from ASEAN. The opening ceremony was directed by Tan Hongxin, Dean of the College of Fisheries and Life Science. Also present at the event were leaders of related competent departments as well as the experts and postgraduates of related colleges, universities and research institutes from nine countries, that is, China, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam and Nepal. More than 120 people attended the opening ceremony.

The event also especially invited some experts in this field to give keynote speeches, including He Jianguo, Dean of the College of Marine Science, Zhongshan University; Doctor Yuan Derun from the Network of Aquaculture Centers in Asia-Pacific; Huang Xuxiong, Deputy Dean of the College of Fisheries and Life Science; and professor Wang Weimin, Dean of the College of Fisheries of Huazhong Agricultural University. The keynote speech was made by professor Zhang Junbin from the Marine Research Institute of Shenzhen University.

Wonderful speeches were also given by many other experts, including Gong Yifu, Deputy Dean of the School of Marine Sciences of Ningbo University. Ma Aijun, Director of the Research Office of Marine Fish Culture and Facility Fishery, Yellow Sea Fisheries Research Institute of Chinese Academy of Fishery Sciences. Tran Ngoc Hai, Deputy Dean of the College of Fisheries, Can Tho University, Vietnam. Dillip Kumar Jha, Director of the Teaching Affairs Department, Nepal Agriculture and Forestry University. Ao Veasna, Director of Marine aquaculture Research and Development Center, the Bureau of Fisheries, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, Cambodia; Hannibal M. Chavez from the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, the Philippines. Assistant Dean of the College of Fisheries, Kasetsart University; Vorathep Muthuwan, Director of the Marine Research Institute of Burapha University, Thailand. responsible person of the Research Institute of Fisheries, the Ministry of Fisheries, Malaysia. Sun Yuqiong, Director of the Enrollment Office of the College of International Cultural Exchanges of SHOU.

At the end of the event, the guests enjoyed high-level performances of “In the Name of Dancing” special dance show and special chorus show presented by the Student Art Group of SHOU. At the China-ASEAN Postgraduates Workshop on Sustainable Aquaculture held on the second day, postgraduates from various countries gave 25 oral reports, and 33 students exhibited their research results in the form of the wall newspaper. After the review and rating by seven judges, ultimately three students won the first prize of “The Best Oral Report Award”, and six won the second prize of “The Best Oral Report Award”.

The event was sponsored by SHOU, and co-sponsored by China-ASEAN Center for Joint Research and Promotion of Marine Aquaculture Technology and the Network of Aquaculture Centers in Asia-Pacific. Focusing on the theme of “Fisheries Education Leading Industrial Development”, it aimed to promote exchanges between China and ASEAN countries in the field of fisheries education, consolidate and strengthen their communication and cooperation in terms of fisheries education and postgraduate education, and, in particular, provide a cooperative research and academic exchange platform for scholars at the fisheries education institutes of China and ASEAN countries.
