Insurance and Medical Treatment

(1) All foreign students shall purchase the hospital medical insurance in China, for RMB 600 Yuan/year or RMB 300 Yuan/half year.

(2) Those who become ill shall seek treatment first at the infirmary or at hospitals regulated by the insurance. The expense occurring at private hospitals or hospitals not covered by the insurance will not be compensated by the insurance.

   Asking for Leave

(1) The foreign student requests for a leave shall fill in the “Application for Leave for Foreign Students of Shanghai Ocean University”. For a leave within 1 day, the application shall be approved by the counselor; for a leave over 2 days, the application shall be approved by the dean of college. The sick leave application shall be attached to ahospital medical record. The approval of course teachers shall be obtained, too, if a course occurs during the leave.

(2) Any absence without application for leave or approval for leave shall be deemed as skipping of school.

(3) Those who fail to attend the regulated teaching activities for two consecutive weeks or skip school for over accumulated 50 credit hours within a semester will be expelled.

(4) Foreign students enjoy the legal holidays of the People’s Republic of China and winter and summer holidays of college. School continues as usual on major holidays of the origin countries of the students and other foreign holidays.

Social Observation and Practice

(1) Each semester, the college will organize several social practice activities for foreign students. Detailed plans for each activity will be in separate notices from the college.

(2) For each particular practice activity, the students shall pay certain fee.

HSK Examination

(1) The foreign students shall pay close attention to the HSK examination information and apply in time.

(2) Application of HSK requires passport and copy, two 2-inch photos, and entry fee.

(3) According to the HSK examination schedule, the college has arranged an HSK tutorial program before the exam during each semester. Students may enroll for it.

Issue and Reissue of On-campus Certificates

(1) The Student IDs are created and issued by the college office. Please apply for reissue if lost.

(2) The college all-purpose card is issued and distributed by the college office and shall be used by the card holder only and shall not be loaned to anyone else. Please report loss at the office immediately after losing the card. A written application must be filed for reissue, and a reissuing fee shall be paid.

(3) The books from the library must be returned on time. Those who fail to return the book in time shall be charged 0.3RMB/day for the overdue time. All books shall be returned to the library prior to leaving the campus.

Taking Course, Receiving Teaching Materials

(1) The students of Chinese language shall receive the teaching materials at the college office and attend classes according to the syllabus issued by the college.

(2) Students of long-term programs shall, according to the college plans, select the courses for the next semester at the end of each semester. The course selection may be changed within 1 week after the starting of each semester.

(3) According to the syllabus, the students of long-term program shall, upon the notice issued by the college, receive the teaching materials for specialist course at the teaching material department of the college.

Residence Permit

(1) The foreign students with X visa must obtain the residence permit within 30 days after entering the country. No one shall, for any reason stall the obtaining of residence permit. Those who fail to obtain the permit within regulated period shall be punished by Public Security Bureau.

(2) The foreign students with F visa may not obtain the residence permit if the duration of study is within 180 days and the student doesn't leave the country during such period; the student shall obtain a residence permit if the duration of study is within 180 days but the student may leave and return to China during such period. The foreign students whose duration of study is over 6 months must obtain the residence permit.

(3) The foreign students with L visa must obtain relevant residence permit within 30 days after entering the country.

(4) The foreign students with landing visa shall apply for residence permit within 15 days after entering the country.

(5) The foreign students entering the country without visa under the Visa Exemption Agreement shall also apply for residence permit within 30 days after entering the country.

(6) The foreign students (self-funded foreign students with tuition fee invoice) shall obtain the school-use-only letter of introduction at the college office. The duration of residence permit shall be determined by the paid semesters. The residence permit duration for the school starting in spring shall end at Jul. 31st of that year. The residence permit duration for the school starting in autumn shall end at Jan. 31st of the next year.

(7) After graduation, the duration of residence permit shall not be extended.

(8) The obtaining of residence permit requires the following materials:

l Personal passport (original + copy)

l Letter of Admission (original + copy)

l JW202 yellow form

l Health certificate issued by passenger examination center of Shanghai Health and Quarantine Bureau (excluding those under 18 years or above 70 years of age, and those who obtained continuation within 3 months after the expiration of residence permit)

l School-use-only letter of introduction

l Application form for foreign students

l Two 2-inch bare-headed photos

l Temporary Lodging Registration Form (original + copy)

l Relevant charges (rendered to Shanghai Public Security Bureau Entry and Exit Administration Bureau)

(9) During the duration of study of the foreign students, if changes occur to the items on the residence permit, a letter of introduction must be obtained from the Admission Office within 10 days of the change. Then register the change at Shanghai Entry and Exit Administration Bureau (#1500 Minsheng Road, Pudong New District).

(10) Upon obtaining the residence permit, the foreign students shall, with the passport, handle the registration procedures at the college office. The foreign student shall from time to time check the validity of the visa or residence permit, to avoid overstay. The foreign students with expired visa or residence permit will be sent to Shanghai Public Security Bureau Entry and Exit Administration Bureau for education and punishment. Normally the fine is RMB 500 Yuan/day for overstay.

(11) The address and office hours and route to Shanghai Public Security Bureau Entry and Exit Administration Bureau are as follows:

Office hours: 9:00 ~ 11:30 a.m., 1:30 ~4:30 p.m. from Mon. to Fri. 9:00 ~ 11:30 a.m. on Sat.

Route by bus: Longgang Express → Longyang Road Subway Station → No.3 exit of Shanghai Science & Technology Museum Station on No.2 Subway Line, then walk straight for 10min.

Physical Examination

(1) The freshmen shall go through physical examination or verification at Shanghai Health and Quarantine Bureau (15# Jinbang Road, sequence call: 62688851). A physical examination or verification requires the following materials:

l Passport (original + copy)

l Four copies of 2-inch photos;

l Letter of Admission to Shanghai Ocean University (original + copy);

l All documents of the student’s physical examination outside China (sealed by local hospitals), including Physical Examination Record for Foreigners (original) and blood test lab report (original);

l Fees;

l DO NOT eat breakfast if the examination is in the morning;

l DO NOT eat within five hours before the examination if the examination is in the afternoon;

(2) Those who fail to pass the physical examination for freshmen (not in compliance with the health standards for foreign students in China specified by the Ministry of Education) shall return to their home country immediately. The air ticket shall be paid by the student himself/herself (including government scholarship students).

(3) Route by bus:

Longgang Express → Longyang Road Subway Station → No.3 exit of Beixinjing Station on No.2 Subway Line, then take a taxi.
