SHOU Teachers Attended the 5th FiSCAO Meeting

From October 23 to 27, Yu Wei, a youngteacher at the College of Marine Science of Shanghai Ocean University (SOU), wasappointed by the Ministry of Agriculture of China as the representative ofChinese fishery scientists to attend the 5th Meeting of ScientificExperts on Fish Stocks in the Central Arctic Ocean (FiSCAO) held in Ottawa,Canada. Representatives from the United States, Canada, Norway, Denmark, China,South Korea, Japan, Iceland and the European Union as well as relevant workgroups of the international organizations such as the North Pacific MarineScience Organization (PICES), International Council for the Exploration of theSea (ICES) and the Arctic Council attended the meeting.

At this meeting,mainly four ToRs were discussed: the first was to design the spatial mapping plan for the Arctic fish distribution and relativeabundance in 1-3 years; the second was the monitoring plan of Arctic marineecosystem; the third was to clarify the manpower, finance and vessel equipmentnecessary for the joint scientific research and monitoring plan; the third wasto design the programs for data collection, sharing, storage and management.The outcome of this scientific conference would provide scientific advice tothe 5th Intergovernmental Consultation on the Arctic Open Sea to be held in theUnited States in late November.

Yu Wei attended the whole session of themeeting, actively participated in the discussion of various issues and the formulationof related scientific plans, focused on the scientific issues of ToR andachieved good results in preparation for the subsequent consultation among governments.
