SHOU Teachers Attending the ASEAN Regional Forum Workshop on Sustainable Fisheries Management and Food Security

On March 13-14, the ASEAN Regional Forum Workshop on Sustainable FisheriesManagement and Food Security was held in Bangkok, Thailand. Under theorganization of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, professor Tang Yi fromthe College of Marine Culture and Law, teacher Shen Huihui from the College of Foreign Languagesand representatives from the Fisheries Bureau of the Ministry of Agricultureand the ChineseAcademy of Fishery Sciences attended the seminar. Professor Tang Yi alsochaired a theme-based workshop link. More than 50 people attended the seminar,including representatives from mainland China, Hong Kong, Thailand, Cambodia,Laos, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, the US, Australia, the EU, Japan, South Korea, NewZealand, Russia, the UK and other countries and regions, as well as the Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center (SEAFEC) andAsia Foundation.

The workshop was passed by the ministerialconference of the 24th ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) held in Manila onAugust 7, 2017. Co-sponsored by China, Thailand and the US and supported byAsia Foundation, it aims to initiate dialogues among ASEAN member states,encourage to strengthen regional cooperation through sustainable fisherymanagement and improve food security.

Focusing on the issues of sustainablefisheries management and food security, the workshop organized extensiveexchanges of ideas and discussions, covering the status of fishery resourcessharing within ASEAN, the future development vision of fisheries managementcooperation within ASEAN, the cooperative development aimed to comprehensivelypromote sustainable fisheries and aquaculture management within AEAN, the developmentof state-level sustainable fisheries management, new technologies of fisheriesmanagement and aquaculture, sustainable development of aquaculture, etc.
