SHOU Teacher Attending a Fishery-related Convention Negotiation Meeting of International Maritime Organization (IMO) for the First Time

On April 28-May 4, as entrusted by the Maritime Safety Administration of the Ministry of Transport and the Fisheries Bureau of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, Xia Liang, Associate Professor of the College of Marine Culture and Law of SHOU, attended the six Session of the Sub-Committee on Human Element, Training and Watchkeeping (HTW6) of IMO in London, the UK as a member of the Chinese delegation. Also present at the session were nearly 300 representatives from IMO’s member states and associate members, the UN’s specialized agencies, and intergovernmental and non-governmental organizations.

This is the first time that a SHOU teacher attends a fishery-related convention negotiation meeting of IMO, and will play an active role in safeguarding the marine fishery rights and interests of our country, improving the safety level of our fishing vessels, and strengthening our communication and cooperation with IMO in the fishery field. Besides, this also further enhances the international visibility of SHOU, and lays a solid foundation for our country in participating in fishery-related international legal affairs and expanding international exchange spaces.
