On the morning of August 28, the opening ceremony and academic seminar of the Environmental DNA Technology and Water Ecological Health Assessment Engineering Center (hereinafter referred to as the Engineering Center) of Shanghai Ocean University was hosted in the Marine Science and Technology Building of Shanghai Ocean University. Jiang Min, Vice President of Shanghai Ocean University, attended anddelivered a speech on the meeting online. Tan Hongxin, Dean of the College of Fisheries and Life Sciences, inaugurated the Engineering Center. Huang Xuxiong, Secretary of the Party Committee of the College of Fisheries and Life Sciences, Gao Guoping, Dean of the College of Marine Ecology and Environment, Li Huihua, Deputy Director of the Science and Technology Department, Chen Lijing, Vice Dean of the College of Fisheries and Life Sciences, 9 external experts and representatives of teachers of the Engineering Center attended the event, and more than 70 experts, scholars and graduate students attended the meeting online. The opening ceremony and academic seminar were hosted by Professor Li Chenhong from College of Fisheries and Life Sciences, Shanghai Ocean University.

The Engineering Center is jointly founded by several colleges based on the Shanghai Universities Key Laboratory of Marine Animal Taxonomy and Evolution, Shanghai Ocean University and the Watershed Ecology and Restoration Laboratory of Shanghai Ocean University. Rooted in Shanghai and radiating the Yangtze River Delta, the Engineering Center aims at scientific and technological innovation, technology development, science education and popularization, and strives to become a key engineering center in the field of environmental engineering in Shanghai within 2-3 years by establishing environmental DNA database, carrying out research, development and application of relevant new technologies, biodiversity monitoring and water ecological health assessment research, and other programs.

Members of the Technical Committee spoke in turn, expressing their congratulations on the establishment of the Engineering Center and their suggestions on its future development.
