About the reporter: Helder Marques da Silva received hisDoctoral degree under the cooperative program between the Universityof Massachusetts Amherst and the Marine BiologicalLaboratory in Woods Hole in 1993. In 2002-2004, he had been serving as Minister of Environment of the Azores Islands. In 2003, hebegan to work as a senior scientist (chief investigator) at the University ofthe Azores. In 2005, he served as regional representative at the regionalmeeting of Azores Islands. In December 2011, he took the post of Director ofthe Department of Oceanography and Aquaculture, the Universityof the Azores, and was a member of the Scientific Committee, the College ofScience and Technology and the Anos[l1] Research Center, the University of the Azores. In 2016, hebegan to take charge of the marine science courses (Bachelor Degree) of the Universityof the Azores. In 2014, he began to serve as Dean of the National Institute forMarine Research.
