On September 21, Campus-Asia OQEANOUS Round Table Symposium was held in SHOU. 16 Japanese and South Korean professors and experts attended the symposium, including Toshio Ikuo, Dean of the Graduate School of Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology; Xu Zhe, Deputy Dean of the Marine Academy of Science and Technology of Korea Maritime and Ocean University, etc. 23 representatives of SHOU also attended the symposium, including Li Jiale, Vice President of SHOU & Dean of the Graduate School; Wang Xichang, Executive Dean of the Graduate School; professors of the Graduate School, and others. The opening ceremony of the symposium was directed by Wang Xichang.

At the symposium, Li Jiale warmly welcomed our Japanese and South Korean guests, and said that, since its formal implementation one year ago, the Campus Asia program had organized various forms of cooperation and exchange at many different levels. To be specific, SHOU alone had sent 14 graduate students and undergraduates to Japan and South Korea for exchange under the double-degree program (DDP) and joint graduate student program (IJP), held and participated two CAMPUS Asia Summer School events, received four batches of Japanese and South Korean teachers and students for short-term academic exchange, and made satisfactory achievements. Li Jiale expressed his hope that this round table symposium would further promote and expand the cooperation among the three universities/countries in terms of talent cultivation, scientific research, teaching faculty construction, etc.

Toshio Ikuo thanked SHOU for our meticulous organization, and said that exchanges among processors would be of vital significance for talent cultivation. He also expressed the hope that the future development of the Campus Asia program would step into a new stage. Based on his feelings about the two years of engagement in the Campus Asia program, Xu Zhe talked about the great difficulties encountered in organizing CAMPUS-Asia OQEANOUS Round Table Symposium, and stressed that, notwithstanding the difficulties encountered by the two universities during program implementation, they had achieved actual results under the student exchange program and that all parties concerned should cherish this opportunity of mutual understanding to jointly promote the better development of CAMPUS Asia.

After that, the Chinese, Japanese and South Korean professors and experts were divided into three groups (i.e., the College of Marine Science, the College of Food Science and Technology and the College of Engineering Science and Technology) to conduct more targeted panel discussions and visit related experiment platform facilities. In panel discussions, they introduced their research fields and cooperation intention, discussed the problems with the international students enrolled under the Campus Asia program, shared their experience, and talked about the specific arrangements made by the three universities to support their international exchange programs and the measures taken by them to further attract international students.

During the round table symposium, the specific principals and specialists of the three countries in charge of CAMPUS Asia coordinated with each other concerning mid-term assessment issues, negotiated about the drafting of the assessment report, and determined that SHOU would send ten gradient students in November and December to Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology and Korea Maritime and Ocean University for short-term exchanges, respectively.
