Recently, the German Accreditation Agency for Study Programs in Engineering, Informatics, Natural Sciences and Mathematics(ASIIN), a Europe-based professional accreditation agency, issued a notice stating that: two programs of the College of Food Science and Technology of Shanghai Ocean University (SHOU), i.e., Energy and Power Engineering and Built Environment and Energy Engineering, both passed ASIIN Accreditation on October10, 2023.

ASIIN (https://www.asiin.de) is a higher education degree accreditation agency in the field of natural engineering in Germany, an authoritative international degree certification agency, a preparatory member of the Washington Agreement for the international engineering education degree accreditation system, and a founder and member of the European engineering education program degree accreditation system.Focusing on engineering specialties, ASIIN accreditation takes into full consideration factors related to enterprises, higher education institutions, scientific circles, and professional practice institutions, and has gained wide recognition. It is in line with the development positioning of the two programs(Energy and Power Engineering and Built Environment and Energy Engineering) and the development direction of application-oriented talent cultivation, which is conducive to further improving specialty education quality and deepening specialty connotation construction.

The school proceeded to prepare for applying for ASIIN accreditation on two programs (Energy and Power Engineering and Built Environment and Energy Engineering) as early as 2019. Over a period of more than four years, with the strong support of SHOU leaders, relevant functional departments, and peer higher education institutions, the two programs have successfully passed ASIIN accreditation after going through three stages:submitting the application form (application stage), resubmitting the application form after approval (self-evaluation report stage), and spot surveyby experts. The accreditation shall remain valid until September 30, 2029. The college engineering degrees accredited by ASIIN are recognized in countries such as the EU, the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and Japan, andgraduates holding such degrees are qualified to work as engineers in the secountries. Taking ASIIN accreditation as a great opportunity, the two programswill further promote the construction of first-class specialties and the Center for Experimental Teaching Demonstration of Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineering. The “student-centered, output-oriented, and continuously-improving” concepts for engineering education accreditation will penetrate through the whole process of professional talent cultivation to continuously deepen specialty connotation construction and effectively improve talent cultivation quality.
