Lecturer Profile:
Luo Wei, researcher at the Polar Research Institute of China, visiting chair professor at Shanghai Jiaotong University, and doctoral supervisor, was the main coordinator of the Antarctic Great Wall Ecology National Observations and Research Station, a national science and technology resources sharing service platform, and has been responsible for the design, coordination, and implementation of terrestrial and nearshore ecosystems programs on the Fildes Peninsula in Antarctica. He once led the construction of automated observation and monitoring capacities for polar terrestrial and nearshore ecosystems.He once served as a member of the International Arctic Science Committee (IASC) Terrestrial Working Group (TWG) as a representative of China, presided over the construction of the “Polar Biological Gene Bank”, and served as the Rotating Secretary General and China’s Coordinator of the Asian Forum on Polar Science (AFoPS), Deputy Director of the Shanghai Key Laboratory of Polar Life Processes and Environment, and Deputy Director of the Key Laboratory of Polar Ecology and Climate Change under the Ministry of Education.He has been presiding over national key research and development programs, major research programs of the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), 863 Project, NSFC and Shanghai Young Science and Technology Star Programs, and other state-and provincial-level programs. His research interests include polar plank-tonic microbial ecology, polar microbial resources, and polar terrestrial and near-shore ecological environment. He has participated in various Antartic and Arctic field scientific expeditions, and published more than 60 papers so far, of which more than 50 papers have been indexed by SCI and cited nearly a thousand times.
