Liu Shaojun, Ph.D., Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, Professor and Doctoral Advisor of Hunan Normal University, Director of State Key Laboratory of Developmental Biology of Freshwater Fish under Provincial and Ministerial Co-construction, Editor-in-Chief of Reproduction and Breeding, Vice Chairman of Hunan Provincial Association of Science and Technology, Vice President of Chinese Fisheries Society, Vice Chairman of National Committee for Approval of Original and Improved Aquatic Varieties,winner of the National Outstanding Youth Science Foundation and National May 1st Labor Medal, National Outstanding Teacher, National Outstanding Science and Technology Worker, member of the Expert Advisory Committee of the Life Science Department of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, scientist of the National Bulk Freshwater Fish Industry Technology System - Breeding Techniques and Methods, and a scientific and technological leader of Hunan Province.

His team has long been engaged in fish genetic breeding research; he has made innovative achievements in theory-technology-products in the field of fish distant hybridization, and commands the leading position in this research field; he has overcome the difficulties of inter-species reproductive isolation, and explored the main genetic and reproduction laws of fish distant hybridization; established the one-step and multi-step key breeding techniques of fish hybridization; created a number of tetraploid and diploid fish fertile lines from distant hybridization, thus forming new fish germplasm resources;He has developed a series of high-quality fish, including five national aquatic species; proved for the first time the evolutionary pathway of carp-crucian carp-goldfish hybridization; advocated the establishment and application of fish well breeding, raising and marketing system; promoted the implementation of the operation system of “government + scientific research team + enterprises + farmers”; As the first author, ,he was awarded two second prizes of National Scientific and Technological Progress Award, National Certificate of Innovation, First Prize of Hunan Scientific and Technological Progress Award, First Prize of Hunan Technological Invention, Hunan Guangzhao Science and Technology Award, Dabei Nong Science and Technology Award, etc.; he led the Freshwater Fish Genetic and Breeding Research and Innovation Team and was awarded the Hunan Provincial Scientific and Technological Innovation Team Award.He presided over developing the Hefang Carp No.2”, which was awarded the Excellent Scientific and Technological Achievements Award of Fishery New Technology, New Products and New Equipment in 2023; he was awarded 37 national invention patents; written the monographs of Fish Distant Hybridization; published more than 200 papers in Genome Research, PNAS, BMC Biology and other journals as the first or the corresponding author.
