On September 16, Stanford University and Elsevier Data Repository released the Stanford University Top 2% Scientists List 2024, 16 faculty members from Shanghai Ocean University (SHOU), namely,  Li Jiale, Chen Xinjun, Wang Xichang, Xie Jing, Cheng Yongxu, Wang Youji, Wu Xugan, Zou Jun, Yu Fei, Chen Ming, Luo Guozhi, Xu Tianjun, Song Wei, GAIDAI Oleg, Su Lei, and Zhang Wenbo, have been selected to the list, hitting a new record high, and further enhancing the SHOU's international academic influence.

As a project result undertaken by Prof. John P. A. Ioannidis' team at Stanford University in collaboration with Elsevier, the list was published on Elsevier's Mendeley Data website. Based on a systematic analysis of the reference data from the Scopus database, and the six composite scores (composite scoreC-score) including the number of citations (distinguishing between self-citations and other citations, and providing self-citation data), H-index, HM factor, etc., and taking into consideration the “Career Influence” and "Annual Influence", the top 2% scientists were selected from nearly 7 million scientists, categorized into 22 fields and 176 sub-fields. The list provides metrics geared toward the long-term scientific performance of scientists, objectively and realistically reflecting the academic impact of scientists.
